Hey y’all, I’m Chandrajit Manhare 👋
I’m a homeowner from Texas who got tired of solar companies talking in circles — so I built the guide I wish I’d had before I went solar myself.
Back in 2023, I installed a 6.5 kW solar system on my own roof. I’m not an installer, I’m not a salesperson, and nobody pays me to push a brand. I’m just the neighbor who already made the mistakes, asked the awkward questions, and read the fine print so you don’t have to.
This site, Solar Power Simplified, exists for one reason: to give you straight, honest, jargon-free solar advice from someone who’s actually lived it.
Why I Started This Site
A few years ago, I thought solar panels were basically fancy roof decorations — until my electricity bill came and I started doing the math. So I went all in on research. What I found was frustrating: most “solar guides” online were either thinly disguised sales pitches or so full of jargon that a normal homeowner couldn’t make sense of them.
When my installer said “just trust me,” I didn’t. Good thing — because digging deeper saved me thousands and steered me away from a couple of bad contracts. I figured if I was this confused, plenty of other folks were too. So I started writing down what I learned, in plain English, for real people making a big, expensive decision.
My Experience
- ☀️ Installed solar on my own home — a 6.5 kW rooftop system (2023). I’ve lived with the savings, the surprises, and one memorable 14-hour outage that taught me why batteries matter.
- 🗣️ Interviewed 50+ solar installers across the U.S. to understand pricing, contracts, and the tricks to watch for.
- 🏭 Visited 12 solar farms and installations to see the technology up close, not just on a spec sheet.
- 📅 3+ years of full-time solar research — tracking equipment, prices, incentives, and policy changes (like the federal tax credit ending in December 2025).
I’m a researcher and homeowner, not a licensed electrician or financial advisor. For installation and tax decisions, always confirm with a certified professional. My job is to help you ask the right questions before you do.
How I Research & Test (Editorial Standards)
- ✅ Real data, cited sources. I back up claims with authorities like the IRS, NREL, the DOE, and EnergySage — and I link to them so you can check my work.
- ✅ Honest pros AND cons. If something isn’t worth your money, I’ll say so. You’ll never see a fake five-star review here.
- ✅ No pay-to-play. A company cannot pay me for a good review or a higher ranking. Ever.
- ✅ Updated regularly. Solar prices and incentives change fast. I revisit key guides at least quarterly and date every update.
- ✅ Clear affiliate disclosure. Some links earn me a small commission at no cost to you — and it never changes what I recommend. See my Affiliate Disclosure.
